Grade 1, Sil Lim Tao - Yellow Belt
The first grade within the Wing Chun System is all about a good understanding of Sil Lim Tao. Upon having a good understanding of the form the student will learn 80-90% of the wing Chun hand movements.
The Student must be able to Talk through the form and answer questions relating to the form.
- Dan Chi Sau is introduced showing the student sensitivity positions and how the three seeds of Wing Chun are linked together.
- Lok Sau or Bong Lap Exercise is introduced getting the student used to the turning stance while applying a Bong Sau and Lap Sau.
- Chi Sau and Gor Sau are introduced along with ten of the most basic techniques of which the student must be able to perform.
- Free Hand Techniques are introduced at a basic level with the student defending against single strikes.
Requirements
The student shall have the ability to:
- Perform the first free hand form - Sil Lim Tao without help.
- All movements of the form must be sharp and fluid.
- The student must demonstrate the correct Energies and Positions throughout the form.
- Talk through each movement of the form with the correct terminology.
- Teach the form to a student or back to the instructor.
Questions to be posed to the student at the end of the form:
The Student is to have the ability to break down three to four different parts of the form which may be picked out by the instructor on the Grading Day.
The Student must answer the following Question - What does Sil Lim Tao Teach You?
Dan Chi Sau, Lok Sau (Bong, Lap Sau Drill)
- Perform the Basic Dan Chi Movements. (Both Sides).
- Perform Lok Sau (Bong, Lap) Exercise - (Static).
- Perform at least Ten of the Basic Chi Sau Techniques
Free Hand Techniques
- Perform basic techniques against a Straight Punch (outer gate and inner gate).
The Student must show good hand eye co-ordination.
The Student must also demonstrate the correct Wing Chun punches against pads and understand why punches are vertical.
The student shall have a basic understanding and the ability to talk about and demonstrate the following:
- Wing Chun Centre Line Theory.
- Inner & Outer Gate Theory.
- What are the Three Seeds of Wing Chun? Why?
