Grade 2, Chum Kiu- Green Belt
The second grade within the Wing Chun System is all a good understanding of Chum Kiu. Upon having a good understanding of the form the student will learn about Multi Directional Defence (MDD) and Multi Directional Offensive Movement (MDOD) Theories.
The Student must be able to Talk through the form and answer questions relating to the form.
- Chum Kiu is Wing Chun's footwork form therefore the student learns to use their feet to manoeuvre and the four distance concept is introduced.
- The Development of Lok Sau (Bong Lap) is continued with footwork which makes it more dynamic.
- Chi Sau and Gor Sau Developments are continued with the student learning more complex techniques and combinations.
- Free Hand Techniques are developed and students are taught to deal with multiple strikes with a variety of techniques with the emphasis on dealing with the first strike correctly.
- The students balance is also improved with weight distribution and emphasis on body structure.
Requirements
The student shall have the ability to:
- Perform the second free hand form - Chum Kiu without help.
- All movements of the form must be sharp and fluid.
- The student must demonstrate the correct Energies and Positions throughout the form.
- Talk through each movement of the form with the correct terminology.
- Teach the form to a student or back to the instructor.
Questions to be posed to the Student at the end of the Form:
The Student is to have the ability to break down three to four different parts of the form which may be picked out by the instructor on the Grading Day.
The Student must answer the following question - What does Chum Kiu Teach You?
Dan Chi Sau, Lok Sau (Bong, Lap Sau Drill)
- Perform the Basic Dan Chi Movements with the Changeover
- Perform Lok Sau (Bong, Lap) Exercise with the Change over and use of footwork – (dynamic)
The Student must show an improvement within their Chi Sau Skill of 90-100% from their first grading: Speed, Reactions, Relaxation, Fluidity, Variation of technique and Footwork will be monitored
Free Hand Techniques
The Student must show in improved footwork skill and be able to use within Chi Sau and Techniques. The student must show improved body mobility within Chi Sau and Technique
The Student must also demonstrate a variety of Wing Chun strikes against pads with increased power and ability from the first grade.
The student shall have an intermediate understanding and the ability to talk about and demonstrate the following:
- Wing Chun Centre Line Theory.
- Inner & Outer Gate Theory.
- The Four Distance Principle.
- Body Structure Theory.
- Multiple Directional Defence Theory (MDD).
- Multi Directional Offensive Movement Theory (MDOM).
- Low Line Kicking Theory (LLK).
- Chi Gerk (Sticky Legs)
