Black Belt Grading Syllabus

Grade 4, Muk Yan Chong - Black Belt

The fourth grade within the Wing Chun System is all about a good understanding of the Muk Yan Chong Wooden Dummy Form.

Upon having a good understanding of the form the student will learn a variety of new hand and foot techniques used against the Muk Yan Chong and be able to show these techniques with a partner.

  • Free Hand Techniques are developed and students are taught to deal with multiple strikes with a variety of techniques with the emphasis on dealing with the first strike correctly.
  • The Student at this level should show good fluidity, energies, positions and distance when performing Techniques, with an increased intent where necessary.
  • There is a technical element introduced to the student to show correct bone alignment and good structure and to develop power.

Requirements

The student shall have the ability to:

  • Perform the Wing Chun Wooden Dummy Form - Muk Yan Chong Form without help
  • The student must demonstrate the correct Energies and Positioning of the techniques throughout the form.
  • Talk through each movement of the form with the correct terminology.
  • Teach the form to a student or back to the instructor.

The student shall have an advanced understanding and be able to talk and answer questions about the following:

  • Biu Tze Form
  • Chum Kiu Form
  • Sil Lim Tao Form

Free Hand Techniques

  • The Student must be able break down the Wooden Dummy Form into separate techniques and demonstrate them back to the instructor.
  • The Student will be able to defend against high, low, inner and outer gate strikes using different hand movements and a variety of endings.
  • The techniques must be shown with an advanced level of distance, footwork, energies and position.

The student shall have an advanced understanding and the ability to talk about and demonstrate the following:

  • Wing Chun Centre Line Theory.
  • Inner & Outer Gate Theory.
  • Body Structure Theory.
  • Multiple Directional Defence Theory (MDD).
  • Multiple Directional Offensive Movement Theory (MDOM).
  • Low Line Kicking Theory (LLK).
  • Quick Release Techniques (QRT)
  • Chi Gerk (Sticky Legs)
  • Basic Close Quarter Combative Ability (CQC)

The Student must show their seniority within the class by this stage and have good communication skills to teach students of Basic and Intermediate ability.
