About Us

Neil Sydenham had been training in Wing Chun Kung Fu at the Realistic Self Defence Association (RSDA) in Newport Pagnell for over 10yrs and had reached instructor level. He had been teaching Wing Chun to the RSDA students for around 5 years.

In January 2009 the RSDA had to unfortunately close, taking the experience that Neil had gained from training with Gary Payne over the years, Certified Instructor Program (CIT), Red Man Training Program, Close Quarter Combatives and instructor level in Wing Chun, Neil was then able to open his own Wing Chun Club.

Progressive Wing Chun was founded in February 2009 just after the closure of the RSDA; Neil was able to continue his passion of teaching and passing on high quality Wing Chun that he had learned from his Sifu Gary Payne.

Progressive Wing Chun was able to honour the training to some of the ex-RSDA students who wanted to continue training in Wing Chun with a very high pedigree. Some of whom still train today.

Progressive Wing Chun's vision is to pass on high quality techniques, build a stronger community by helping people get in shape, be safe and at the same time instil the life skills and character of a true martial artist. Upholding important values like courtesy, self-discipline, patience, respect, self control and integrity.

The Martial Arts industry is currently being overhauled. There are a lot of clubs who do not have the correct certification to teach techniques to students and more importantly do not hold the correct insurance to ensure that their students can continue to train in a safe environment. Progressive Wing Chun has been for some time in association with the Martial Arts Network who is in the process of putting together the correct instructor training courses which enables their instructors to obtain the correct certification and Progressive Wing Chun is one of the first Martial Arts clubs in this area to hold this certification as ALL of Progressives Wing Chun’s instructors are CRB certified, First Aid trained and are fully instructor certified which includes health and safety and risk assessment training.

As Progressive Wing Chun is in association with Martial Arts Network we are able to better the quality of our instructors to enable us to continue to improve our service to our students. Progressive Wing Chun aim is to pass on high quality Wing Chun techniques that work in reality and suit everybody. Our customer service is paramount in providing the best service for our students.

Our instructors take their responsibility seriously as role models for younger students, teaching them the importance of strong character, leadership and good values. The teaching curriculum for Martial Arts Network is based on two concepts: "positive mental attitude" and "high goal setting." We feel so positive about our classes that we promise to give you and your family the most professional, well supervised and high quality classes available in any sport or art in your area.
